Postpartum Belly Binding

The traditional practice of wrapping the belly post-childbirth is an ancient art that was implemented in Asia, Europe, and Latin America.

Belly binding is a technique used after childbirth to help strengthen the abdominal muscles and support the spine while your body begins to heal. The practice involves wearing a belly wrap or binder, which is typically made of cotton, silk or muslin fabric.

Your wrap may be custom to fit your unique body due to your service specialist applying the wrap to you, this is not a one size fits all type of garment. The process of wrapping is a calming ritual and a way to honor your post pregnancy body. We are taking advantage of the fact that the hormone relaxin is still flowing through your body and signaling the abdomen to return to pre-pregnancy state, this same hormone which once allowed your body to grow during pregnancy.

Some people believe it decreases the appearance of stretchmarks and sagging skin after birth, too.

As a new generation of women are discovering other cultures' ancient traditions for better birthing experiences, we are also discovering better ways to heal their bodies after birth.

Benefits of Postpartum Belly Binding

Binding the stomach offers support, stability and comfort to the muscles, skin and internal organs. Wearing the bind promotes healing and repair to the postpartum body. During pregnancy, the vertical abdominal muscles widen and thin to accommodate growing babies, which can result in diastasis recti. Diastasic recti is when the muscles separate, creating back issues, hernias and bulging of the abdomen. Binding is an excellent way to bring the muscle walls back together. In doing so, supports spine and posture realignment. By practicing belly binding shortly after birth we are benefiting from the continous flow of the hormone relaxin which is still present as it was during pregnancy.
